Dear Sir
Horticulture and Sanitation in our colony
The above two areas have been the subject of numerous complaints from me to you and every time I have complained some remedial action is taken.
The staff responsible are very unhappy at being made to work. They have written a complaint about me to my colony’s Resident’s Association of which copies have been made available to me.
The main problem appears to be lack of adequate supervision.
HORTICULTURE
Dead trees were cut over a year ago after much chasing and reminders and the stumps are still not removed. One dead tree has not been removed. It makes a hazard to residents as it can fall on them at any time. The dead branches of eucalyptus trees have not been pollarded.
No new trees have been planted despite requests for flowering Ashoka and Arjunas.
The Mali (Bhola) who lights up leaves to warm his tea in winter and adds to pollution has not been acted against.
There are 5 (FIVE) Malis and one supervisor.
The garden is not kept clean.
I myself remove garbage on my walks [plastic dead branches etc] and pile them near the heap where cut grass and branches are collected for disposal. The pile grows and despite it being shown to the Chowdhury of the Malis, Bir Singh, no action is taken.
Are there really five Malis working here? This question was asked of Bir Singh as there were only three Malis when he was taking roll call. He said they are at the other Park. If he takes Roll Call do they all come to him or does he go to them?
SANITATION
The sweepers fill up the drains with what they remove from the roads. The dust forms mud and cakes the drains. Water accumulates and causes health hazard by providing breeding ground for mosquitoes.
About a fortnight ago Bir Singh was sitting in Park No 1 and registering attendance when all this was pointed out to him. He said that he was also looking after the sanitary karmacharis as their supervisor could not come. Instead of doing the work it would appear that the solution found is to complain against the complainant. As your office has previous knowledge of the matter the complaint has been addressed to the Resident’s Association and not to you.
It is for consideration whether a surprise check, especially of the very dirty service lanes and the drains can be made so that you can see the situation for yourself.
We all want to make Delhi Green and Clean and if the few persons who take interest are silenced this will become all the more difficult
Yours faithfully
AKHILESH MITHAL
